Es un intento de aproximarnos a elegir las cien mejores, tarea sumamente difícil.

Este video incluye además, la canción "Close to you".
En su época de esplendor los criticaban por hacer canciones "blandas"; sinceramente y por más comercial que parezca su estilo, no lo definiría así y creo que en su discografía hay temas brillantes.

RICHARD CARPENTER nació en New Heaven, Connecticut,el 15 de Octubre de 1946; su hermana KAREN, el 2 de Marzo de 1950.
Su familia se mudó a California y desde muy jóvenes se dedicaron a la música.
El primer disco del dúo fue "Ticket to ride" , de los Beatles, en 1969.
En 1970 alcanzaron el primer gran éxito con "Close to you".
Posteriormente llegarían "We´ve only just began", "There´s a kind of hush", "Rainy days and mondays", "Superstar", "Please Mr. Postman", entre otras canciones.
El 4 de febrero de 1983 falleció Karen Carpenter de un paro cardíaco provocado por su anorexia nerviosa.

Christopher Anton Rea, nació el 4 de marzo de 1951 en Middlesbrough, Inglaterra.
"Benny Santini" es el título de su primer disco, y en un principio pensó en adoptarlo como nombre artístico, idea posteriormente desechada, para ser Chris Rea.
De su extensa carrera musical destacan los éxitos Fool(if you think it's over), On the beach, Josephine, Looking for the summer, Julia, Auberge, Road to hell, la deliciosa balada Heaven, entre muchos otros.
En el año 2002, tras superar un grave cáncer (las posibilidades de sobrevivir eran de un 50%), su música volvió a las raíces jazz-blues.
Tras la gira europea de 2006 y la edición de su set "Blue Guitar", obra compuesta por 11 CDs temáticos y diseño del propio artista, su carrera bajo el nombre de Chris Rea deja paso a "The Fire Flies", su nueva banda.

Hay varias canciones que fueron un aporte valioso para las discotecas; en la primera lista de lo que se bailaba, incluímos a Rasputín y Rivers of Babylon.

BONEY M fue una creación de Frank Farian en el año 1975, integrado por las cantantes Marcia Barret,Liz Mitchell, la modelo Maizie Williams y el ex DJ Bobby Farrell.

La banda surgió en la ciudad que le da el nombre: Chicago.
Sin embargo, inicialmente se llamó "Missing Link", luego "Big Thing" y ese mismo año "Chicago Transit Authority".
Al principio el grupo estaba formado por Terry Kath (guitarra y voces), Peter Cetera (bajo y voces), Robert Lamm (teclado y voces), Walter Parazaider (saxofón), Danny Seraphine (batería), James Pankow (trombón) y Lee Loughnane (trompeta).
Los bronces los diferenciaron de sus contemporáneas en los años 60.
En 1969 lanzaron su primer disco que llevó el nombre de la agrupación. En él se encuentran influencias del jazz.
En 1970, pasaron a denominarse definitivamente "Chicago" y sacaron un segundo disco: "Chicago II". De ahí en adelante, aunque con tres excepciones, los discos de la banda siempre llevarían el nombre del grupo y el número de producción.
Promediando los 70 el grupo se empezó a alejar del jazz y se acercó a un pop suave.
Con "Chicago X" ganaron el Grammy de mejor album de 1976.
A finales de la década la popularidad del grupo decayó bastante; en 1981 lograron un nuevo éxito, con "Hard to say I´m sorry".
Aunque aún siguen tocando, desde la salida de Cetera nunca volvieron a sonar igual.

Canción perteneciente al álbum "World falling down" del año 1992.
También cantada por Leo Sayer, aunque la versión original de Cetera nos parece insuperable.

PETER CETERA nació el 13 de Septiembre en Chicago, Illinois.
Voz líder de Chicago desde fines de los sesenta.
En 1981 lanzó su primer álbum como solista sin abandonar a la banda, lo que haría definitivamente en 1985.
En su carrera en solitario se destacan "Nex time I fall", "Glory of love", "Even a fool can see" y "Feels like heaven".

DAVID GATES nació el 11 de Diciembre de 1940 en Tulsa, Oklahoma.
En 1967 formó The Pleasure fair, y un año más tarde, junto a Bob Royer y Jimmy Griffin dieron vida a Bread, con Gates como la inconfundible voz líder.
Firmaron contrato conm Elektra records y lanzaron el primer álbum, también llamado "Bread".
Un año más tarde se incorporó el baterista Mike Botts.
El primer éxito lo lograron con "Make it with you" en 1970.
Otros trabajos a lo largo de la carrera de Bread alcanzarían un notable suceso, como "Baby I´m a want you", "Evewrything I own", o "Guitar man".
En 1973 llegó la separación del grupo y el comienzo de la carrera solista de David Gates".

WILLIAM MARTIN JOEL nció el 9 de Mayo de 1949 en Hicksville, Long Island.
Su marcado interés por el piano desde niño le hizo aprender a la edad de 4 años.
En sus canciones podemos observar un marcado predominio del piano, y melodías excepcionales, fundamentalmente baladas.
El primer éxito fue "Piano man", en 1973.
Con "The stranger" ganó el Grammy de mejor disco del año en 1977.

REX SMITH nació en Jacksonville, Florida, el 19 de Septiembre de 1959.
Alcanzó la fama con este gran tema, en 1979.
A mi juicio no tiene más nada en su discografía que podamos catalogar de interesante al al menos; ha grabado unos once discos aproximadamente.
Pero “You take my breath ” nos parece brillante.
Además de cantar, ha actuado en películas, series televisivas y teatro.

Fue voz líder y tecladista de The Commodores alcanzando gran éxito durante los setenta.

DIANE ERNESTINE EARLE ROSS, nació en Detroit, Michigan, el 26 de Marzo de 1944.
desde muy joven integró el grupo femenino The Primettes, más tarde The Supremes, alcanzando la fama bajo el sello Motown.
En 1993, entró en el Libro Guinness de Récords como la artista femenina de mayor éxito de todos los tiempos, debido en parte a sus 18 números uno, seis de ellos en solitario.
Es difícil elegir canciones de su discografía, debido a la extensión; pero destacaría "Lady sings the blues", "I´m coming out", "Upside down".

Es una extraordinaria canción del ex- Procol Harum, Matthew Fisher, del año 1980.
Matthew Charles Fisher, nació el 7 de marzo de 1946 en Addiscombe, Croydon, Surrey, Inglaterra.
Integró la banda Procol harum hasta el año 1969.
Fisher también fue el creador de "She makes me feel", entre otros temas a lo largo de su carrera solista.
En el año 2006 ganó una demanda contra el grupo por la co-autoría de "A whiter shade of pale", otra de las canciones que incluímos en nuestra primera lista de lentas.
